Pinky Ponders: The Power of Music

The music scene is abuzz about the release of TLC’s biopic, Crazy Sexy Cool. Reviews call it a truly, authentic interpretation of the group’s struggles and victories throughout the past 20 years.

This film captures the heart of their style (and grace) throughout the ups and downs they faced.

The most memorable of those struggles was when Lisa “Left Eye Lopez”, an integral part of their trio was tragically killed in an accident. I still remember when it happened — it was such a shock. Sudden and unexpected.

I also remember watching the remaining two Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas suffer a deep loss that we as fans could only imagine what it felt like. To be going so strong and then have it all come to a screeching halt..

We could only view them as outsiders, but that doesn’t mean we didn’t feel the heartbreak.

Chasing Waterfalls

Pinky wonders — Why do we mourn for performers, musicians in particular? We’ve never met them, spoken to them, but yet, we feel like they’re a part of us.

They open themselves up through their music and lyrics.

They bare their souls to us.

We believe that we understand their pain, their joy and everything in between — we feel it, what they feel because music is just that powerful.

& we subconsciously appreciate this “peek” into the expression of their souls.

TLC Lives on
If you’re a TLC fan, like Pinky — they just released (on Oct.15th,2013) a “Greatest Hits” CD 20  that features classics like Waterfalls, Scrubs and Creep PLUS, brand new tracks like Meant to be featuring T-Boz and Chilli. The new songs are reminiscent of their self-defined style that helped them rise to fame 20 years ago.

Check out this song, “Meant to be” written by Ne-yo (one of two previously unreleased songs on their 20 album) performed by T-Boz and Chilli.

Oh-Bla-Di Oh-Bla-Da

I think that if I had been alive when John Lennon was shot — it would have been a devastating day. I love the Beatles. It’s probably best I wasn’t born in the 50’s and a teenager in the 60’s. Pretty sure I would’ve been a tad bit obsessed with these Legends.

Gone Too Soon

But the singer that most struck me when she died was probably Aaliyah. It seemed that she had only gotten started. She died so suddenly, she was so talented and beautiful and had an amazing future in front of her. I love this song, “Rock the Boat”. Try Again, One in a Million, I Miss You and All I Need.

I’d love to hear your thoughts. Thank you so much for reading!

Good night, good afternoon and good morning, wherever you are : ).

Pinky Chai Goes Au Naturale

Okay, we’re talking nature here, another one of my many loves…

I love season changes. Fall is my utmost favorite, especially because I live in the Midwest. The colors are striking, the air is crisp and smells like sweet leaves and earth.

Nature is easy to blog. It speaks for itself..

In my opinion, this is one of the most beautiful music videos ever made. The gorgeous animals and nature shots are stunning.
